Parts of the hotel’s building date back to 1206 when it was inside the original precinct wall of the Abbey. The earliest trade directory in which it was listed as a hotel was 1835, when it was known as the Beaufort Arms Hotel. The landlord at that time was for many years recorded as being the key holder and official guide to the Abbey. Although the hotel has undergone many changes throughout its history, in 2002 it was completely refurbished and renamed. | |

For walking holidays Tintern to Chepstow is the last stretch of the famous Offas Dyke Path. Directly above the hotels grounds walkers can access the increasingly popular Wye Valley Walk. For activity holidays, the steeply wooded Wye Valley offers abundant rambles and hill walking for the more energetic. The neighbouring Forest of Dean is a veritable sports wonderland with several centres offering activities such as potholing, orienteering, archery, paintballing and horse riding. Activity breaks at The Abbey Hotel also feature a mountain bike package. |
