Northumberland is Englands Border Country, a stunning region of country walks and strolls along a picturesque coast. There is history and heritage around every corner of this friendly county of country pubs and charming cottages. Carraw Bed and Breakfast is situated on the Northern frontier of the Roman Empire, within Northumberland National Park. Spread over the hills and valleys at the very top of England, but right in the centre of Britain, Northumberland National Park has unspoilt treasures awaiting your discovery. Ancient pre-history and the rare red squirrel exist alongside traditional lifestyles and a thriving culture. There are distinct characteristics within the landscape of the National Park. To the north there are the breathtaking rolling moors and grasslands of the Cheviot Hills, with their ancient hillforts and pure rivers. In the centre is Rothbury and Coquetdale with the landmark Simonside Hills and the beautiful villages of Harbottle and Holystone. To the west are the valleys of the North Tyne and Redesdale, wild, inspiring and once home of the Border Reivers and still inhabited by red squirrels. In the south is the iconic ridge of the Whin Sill with Hadrians Wall striding along its crest. |

By Car From the M6 / Carlisle: - Follow the A69 (signposted Hexham, Newcastle). - On entering Haydon Bridge, turn left onto Church Street – B6319 (signposted Chollerford). - Cross the railway line and bear left onto North Bank. - After approximately ½ mile bear right onto Tofts Bank (signposted Grindon and Roman Wall). - After approximately ½ mile bear left onto North Road (signposted Grindon). - Continue straight on at the cross roads with Stanegate (signposted Roman Wall). - On reaching the T-junction with the Military Road – B6318, turn right. - Carraw Bed and Breakfast is located on the right-hand side after approximately 2 miles. From the A1 (Newcastle / Gateshead): - At the junction of the A1 / A69 follow the A69 (signposted Hexham). - At the Styford roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A69 (signposted Jedburgh, Carlisle) along Corbidge Bypass. - At the Bridge End roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A69 (signposted Carlisle). - Turn right onto the A6079. - On entering Acomb, continue on A6079 for approximately 3 miles. - At the crossroads with the B6318 (signposted Chollerford), turn left. - Cross the River Tyne at Chollerford (Chesters Bridge). - At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the Military Road – B6318 (signposted Carlisle). - Carraw Bed and Breakfast is located on the left-hand side after approx 4½ miles, just past the Temple of Mithras (Brocolitia), on your left. |
