Kensington Palace in London is a working Royal residence. The Palace was the favourite residence of successive sovereigns until 1760. It was also the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria. Kensington Gardens covers 111 hectares (275 acres) and was originally part of Hyde Park. Kensington Gardens, with its magnificient trees, is a perfect setting for Kensington Palace. Oxford Street has the highest concentrations of large shops in the world. More than 300 shops sell thousands of lines of goods from inexpensive gifts to haute couture. The most famous shops include Debenhams, D H Evans, John Lewis and Selfridges. Aside from carnival weekend, Notting Hill is a rather quiet area for most of the year. The exception to this is Saturdays when Portobello Market is jam-packed with visitors hunting through the antiques market. |
