| The Knavesmire Manor Hotel is situated in a prime location on Tadcaster Road, approximately 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The A64, the outer ring road of York, is just a short drive away. From there, it is a pleasant drive to the east coat of Yorkshire or to the west towards Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales. There are many varied attractions in and around York, making it one of the UKs top tourist destinations. The ancient walled city itself is renowned for its history and architecture. Visitors can enjoy a walk along the ancient medieval walls, which affords some of the best views of the city. Situated on the bank of the River Ouse, Rowntree Park is only a short walk along the riverside from the centre of York. This beautiful, tranquil park is great for a relaxing stroll. The many other attractions nearby include York Minster (one of Europes finest cathedral) and the Shambles, a historic, narrow street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. As you walk the cobbled street, you are transported back in time to the Elizabethan period, but the street originally dates back to medieval times. In some places, the street is so narrow that if you stand with arms outstretched, you can touch the houses on both sides. The Castle Museum in York offers a fascinating insight into everyday life in Victorian England, and the National Railway Museum contains the Flying Scotsman and many other famous railway engines and carriages. The Jorvik Viking Centre gives you the opportunity to come face-to-face with the Vikings, on the very site where archaeologists discovered the remains of the place they once called home. |
